How can you decide what a relationship is going to look like when you haven't even met the other party in the relationship yet? 

And yet, we often do this in parenting, deciding in advance what our parenting experience is going to look like, even though we don't even know who our kid is yet. 

I found parenthood to be shockingly different from what I imagined. Despite being an intelligent, loving, kind person, I found out pretty quickly that as a parent, I was no match for my particular brand of kids. 😂
